Single star ready to be blasted

Since last writing I've worked with the single release as I planned. Crafted artwork for the single, recorded vocals, mixed & mastered the grind blast. It's 52 seconds long piece. And the release is already under the process as CDbaby.com. Release date is set for 31st October 2022 - and from there it will go into the all usual streaming systems.

During past few days I've been working with music video, for the single release. It's been fun little thing to do, since it's a short one - not too sweaty task. And this is the cover artwork for the single. It's a ...

Silence was deafening ...

Look once again how time flies - even that it's not always fun either. Well, well ... kind of funny how things went, actually I only visited this blog of mine just today, first time since probably last writing, which was in June 2021. And reading what I wrote then, yeah, it seems that I was onto something ... and even more hilarious is the way how I ended up checking what I wrote here in June 2021.

Well, as I mentioned in previous post, there was "some" renovation projects ahead. Some, indeed. Pretty soon after I wrote that in June 2021, renovation was taking pretty much all the free time I had. I was doing renovation tasks myself as well as had external labour doing two separate tasks as well. Then soon it was late 2021 already, there was only small break from all the renovating, if there was any real break from it - and the biggest renovating operation started in January 2022. It got finished in May only, and from May to late July 2022 I was pretty much outdoor "renovating" our garden, too. So, all my time went to that to the extent that I even got some health issues - and add to that some 2-3 brutal flu sessions, out of which the last one started when I was finishing the gardening work, and I got fully recovered only in late July. As is evident, renovating has been in limelight, almost too much to be honest.

So, while very recently I've been planning some Chipfusion stuff, and while at it, I stumbled across Scumfusion song bases dating back to Spring 2021. My main PC came to its' end in December 2021 after serving me record breaking 6 freakin' years (!) ... so I had to start it clean with new PC back in late 2021. All that and the renovation made me simply forget that I had crafted any Scumfusion material in the first place. So I stumbled across my own material I didn't quite remember, then came here to read and oh yeah, I had some plans back in Summer 2021 ... the plans came to dead end as renovation took over like The Mule in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, you know?

So, ... fast forward to present day. While doing something all different musically I found my Scumfusion "stash" and listened the song bases. Some tracks sound too much like ... not really there, more like band practice, sound experiments in a form of some song bases. But one song catches me, it's the first song I crafted in Spring 2021 and I remembered I thought it would make a great opening track for something. Something that does not exist. As right now I decided to pretty much scratch the other tracks. I'm not in mood for crafting full release or not even EP right now. Instead I got idea for single release: I'll put finishing touches for this one grind blast (which isn't even 1 minute long), I already got idea for lyrics - I'll record vocals and aim for Halloween release in coming weeks. It's such a sweet grind piece that it shouldn't be left to rot. And also while creating in 2021, I didn't write up any notes for guitar / bassguitar sound settings at all, so I would be hard pressed to be able to reproduce identical soundscapes (thinking about EP or album release). So, why not make first ever single release for Scumfusion, then.

You have been warned. This time it's (a star) war!

Creating while renovating ... and some beats

Several weeks passed since last writing but that does not mean anything (is mine) wouldn't had been happening. In fact I soon composed new song bases after the first grind piece, trying different soundscapes while recording. But other than that, not really focusing into the actual creation currently even that I have clearly good vibe for diving into that as time permits - mainly because there are so much going on currently. And I'm not even talking about summer holiday I'm soon going to have (well deserved, too). In the middle of it all, we are still settling in into our new home, and while it's built in mid 1970s, it means there is lots of renovation to be done. That takes some time and some of it shall continue in 2022 too. And time ... goes also into small garden which we now have; trimming, tuning, tweaking and crafting it towards "our style" bit by bit, so to speak. Etc. And that's not even all there's going on, apart from  having of course daytime job to take care, too.

There is also a serious source of inspiration and key to new era of creation(s), too: I celebrated my birthday in late May, in a special way ... finally buying electric drumkit for myself. For both playing and of course home studio experiments. It's something I've been thinking for years and years already. It will be  a while before I'm recording grind style drums myself for Scumfusion, but the drumkit is massive source of inspiration and joy, no matter the music style. Drums & beats have always been big, big thing for me. So, in recent weeks I set up that drumkit and took initial "how it feels" sessions and finetuned drums' positions etc, starting from zero ... then I started drumming some songs to see can I drum them the way they go (and it felt great to notice that I could do some parts of them). The first ones that I went trying and I guess this tells quite a lot about where I come from, too;

1) Death "Leprosy"
2) Autopsy "Twisted mass of burnt decay"
3) Bolt Thrower "Spearhead"
4) Napalm Death "Life?"
5) Slayer "Raining blood" and "Angel of death"

Not that I'd went them throughout (except "Life?", ha ha) but bits and pieces. Probably "leprosy" and "spearhead" practice sessions out of those five the most. Anyway, it's a beginning! Spark v2.0.

Spark

As it usually happens, when inspiration strikes it comes out of the blue so to speak ... today, after years of break from crafting Scumfusion material, I suddenly felt that I need to lay down basic grind beats and record the simple riff idea down. Even before doing it, I knew it's Scumfusion material - and it certainly is. About 50 seconds long blaster, very rough demo only.

And as it so often also goes, I can't say at this stage what happens next and / or with what kind of timeline. I do have strong feeling that some brutal tunes might be forming, but we'll see. Anyway, it felt refreshing to return to SF after a long break. :) And this time (it's war) there will be no chirping chiptunes or stuff like that mixed in. It will be back to basics with scifi soundscapes possibly thrown in - but no chiptunes or any inventions like that. Even that I like 2017 release musically a lot, still, but it was one of a kind experiment which gave birth to Chipfusion.

I'll write more if / when grinding continues.

Like evidence for previous analysis

I recently completed yet another (third release already) for Chipfusion, which - if you managed to read that previous lengthy analysis post - funnily works like an evidence about what I thought when I analysed Scumfusion's 'Latemogelian infiltration' release. That how I liked the idea of combining crazy chiptunes and extreme grindcore stuff. But while I liked the idea, it was beyond my producer skills to produce that combination with enjoyable overall sound. Yeah.

Well, with Chipfusion I don't aim for any grindcore style, but it's about relaxed, computer gamish (1980s) music styled, fusing some influences from other genres with the chips. Sure some influences (some might argue a lot, not just some) come from metal music and yes, it's not hard to take note. But Chipfusion is not supposed to be "brutal" or "noisy", really, anyway.

The third release (came out December 2019) has 20 tracks having all kinds of influences, but as I work with intuitive flow - there are some moments that border on being rather brutal for chiptune music. Someone can almost sense a hint of Scumfusion in there. Hah! And I didn't even realise this until I had the album finalised, I just felt that some tunes needed to be "short and quickie" things. Then I realised how they have sort of Scum vibe going in them - and this is where comes the evidence part, too:

Chipfusion is "chiptune music first, and primarily, anything else only after that, mixed in" ... and it works so much better with this Chipfusion's production, if compared to Scumfusion's 'Latemogelian infiltration' experimental release. You might not be interested in chiptune music, if so - then just skip the rest. But if you want to hear what I mean, real evidence - it works so much better, this combination of "some metal influence into chiptunes" than the other way around. Check out this song to experience what I mean:

When it comes to Scumfusion, I haven't yet worked any new material. But there are certain elements going on in my life, or have been recently that ... well, like I recently stated to some friend; I could craft extremely angry and explosive grindcore stuff if things go like this. Don't know when it happens, but I'm sure it will happen at some point. Recently Chipfusion's "lighthearted" funny music has been a good outlet for me.
